Viral infections vary in different age groups, ranging from head congestion, postnasal drip, sore throat, cough and fever to muscle aches and pains, abdominal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea, which is normally limited to 48 to 72 hours. A fever goes up and down, responds to the fever therapy above, and the patient alternately appears well. Try to keep children quiet since rest is important to aid the body’s own defenses and to help avoid complications. Smaller children regulate their activity well. If they don’t feel well, they lie down. Older children and especially adults need to be restricted.
