To stop bleeding, apply direct firm pressure for ten to twenty minutes with a cold, clean washcloth. Don’t look to see if the bleeding has stopped. A tetanus shot will be necessary if the wound has dirt in it or if immunizations are not up-to-date. Sutures will be necessary if the wound edges do not approximate together. Wash mild injuries not requiring sutures with warm soap and water, apply antibacterial cream, bandage.
