Immediately soak the affected burned area up to one hour in cold water with ice cubes in it. Keep greasy substances off of it. If a burn is on the face, cold towels and ice bag may be used; and a severe burn should be covered with a clean, newly laundered towel or sheet. A physician should be notified if there is blister formation or a loss of sensation in the area. All eye burns and burns in young children should be seen by a doctor. A tetanus booster may be necessary. If not severe, the treatment consists of infection prevention - four times per day cleansing with sterile materials and bactericidal soap.
